#musings // This past week, I took off of work to visit some friends and then make my way down the Jersey shore to spend time with my family. Every morning I've woken up at 6:30am to draw and make progress on the children's book illustrations, respond to emails about freelance graphic design work, and plan for my upcoming 'artist of the month' exhibition at Art Cafe. 'Keep your eye on the prize' – a saying from the American Civil Rights Movement that always resonated with me – has been the theme, or a phrase, that I keep coming back to. I caught up with a good friend who's going through a tough time this past weekend, and I find myself overwhelmed with these 1,000 things to do and timely projects to get done – even on vacation! 'Keep your eye on the prize' applies to both of us. What is it that you truly want to do? What are you working so hard for? What are you going through *whatever it is you're going through* for? What's the end goal? It's easy to get distracted from the prize [our goals] even if there's still a burning desire for what we earnestly want there. We get comfortable in the day-to-day and routines because we feel we HAVE to ~ pay bills, commute to work, take care of family, go food shopping, replace light bulbs, stay in certain relationships... ~ but we have to step back and remember what the point of it all is. What's really important to you? If you're unhappy in your current state, for whatever reason, it's probably because you just aren't where you want to be yet. It's okay. Keep your eye on the prize and don't let ANYTHING or ANYONE (yourself) deter you. Make little steps and progress every day. Don't lose sight of what you want, especially if you're lucky enough to know what it is.
